Student who left Haiti after 2010 quake among St. Scholastica grads | Duluth News Tribune

Fils-Aime was among the 580 students receiving bachelor’s degrees from the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday. In a sea of blue gowns and caps, Fils-Aime stood out with the colors of his native Haiti on his graduation stole instead of St. Scholastica’s traditional gold stole.

His father arrived in Duluth from Haiti on Saturday morning to watch him receive his degree in computer science, along with the family of Jeff Gacek, co-founder of the Minnesota-based nonprofit Healing Haiti.

After the 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti, Fils-Aime moved to Minnesota to live with Gacek while he completed his education. via | Duluth News Tribune
