Minister’s Resignation Could Test Haiti’s Nascent Tourism Growth | TravelPulse

Saturday’s resignation of Laurent Lamothe, Haiti’s prime minister, is not expected by most observers to halt the country’s growing profile as a leading Caribbean tourism destination, an aim the former prime minister had been instrumental in implementing in recent years. But his absence may leave a void as a key supporter of Haiti’s emerging leisure travel industry has left the government.Lamothe announced his resignation in a television address that followed the release of a report commissioned by Michael Martelly, Haiti’s president. Scheduled legislative and municipal elections have been upheld in Haiti for more than three years as political parties have sparred over the creation of an electoral law to facilitate balloting. In recent days citizens and political groups have held street protests over the failure to hold elections. via | TravelPulse
