It would be ridiculous to say the Barcelona side of 2008-14 will be remembered as a disappointment. They played probably the best football we’ve ever seen and had three players – you don’t need me to name them – who would be contenders for an all-time world XI. But they haven’t won quite as much as they should have: two European Cups, the same as Brian Clough’s Forest and Real’s much maligned galacticos, and four league titles in six seasons.
It’s still a wonderful record (people forget that, for example, Arrigo Sacchi’s Milan only one a single league title) but they didn’t quite establish the dynasty most people expected. Perhaps that’s just not possible anymore. We’ll have a better idea in six weeks’ time, once we see how Bayern’s season has played out. via – Telegraph
