CISF contingent leaves for Haiti on UN mission – The Times of India

One of the major responsibilities of this contingent would be to protect civilians under imminent threat of physical violence. Among other responsibilities, the contingent is supposed to protect United Nations personnel, facilities, installations and equipment and is expected to ensure the security and freedom of its personnel. During the earthquake that occurred in Haiti on January 12, in 2010, CISF personnel played a significant role in search and rescue operations and day and night medical assistance to the general public of Haiti. Necessary items, medicines, water bottles etc were also arranged and provided to the needy people. CISF contingent actively participated to control the \”cholera\” epidemic spread in October, 2010 as well. The role played by CISF contingent was widely appreciated by all, said a CISF release.

At present, CISF Contingent (FPU-5) has been assigned with the prestigious task to provide security to the residence of the President of Haiti. via – The Times of India
